TCP/IP Accelerator

Key features:

  • Significantly Improved TCP/IP performance
  • Http pre-fetching
  • Effective acknowledgment protocol
  • Unified performance regardless of Operating Systems & TCP stack implementation
  • all Data (web) servers regardless TCP/IP settings
  • No need to configure Proxy server by Client
  • SW for end-users installations transparent operation

TCP/IP Accelerator Overview:

Serves for improving and unifying TCP/IP performance for broadband long latency networks e.g. satellite, DVB-T with GPRS return path etc. Accelerator avoids negative reaction of TCP congestion window interpreting the long Round Trip Time (RTT) as traffic congestion and thus reducing the data send by server. It is based on transparent TCP/ip connection splitting into 3 TCP/ip connections:

  • From Data Server (e.g maindata.info) to DVB satellite Up-link or DVB-T transmitter (center)
  • From center to client terminal (receive-only or two way)
  • From terminal to LAN user

At second (b) connection there is implemented enhanced acknowledging mechanism reflecting nature of satellite behavior - by implementing much larger TCP sliding window size, FEC mechanism etc. Keeping in mind that TCP/ip connection is host-to-host oriented in case one host e.g. web server uses only 8 kbyte large window size performance at network with RTT e.g. 700 msec can be max. 91 kbps, even when we have full transponder at disposal for single user. MD TCP/IP accelerator thus unifies performance for any Operating system and any setting of Data Server resulting in higher performance of TCP/IP connections.

Due to the improved acknowledgment mechanism there is also much higher ratio between incoming and outgoing packets (increase from standard values of 1:10 to 1:200). Without higher ratio links with thin return path link (like GPRS at 11 kbps) TCP/IP performance could not exceed given multiple of return path link speed (for GPRS e.g. 110 kbps). With TCP/IP accelerator it is possible to reach for example performance of single TCP/IP connection 3 mbps for narrowband return path or 6 mbps for ISDN line return path connection
